Settlement Agreements

man and woman signing settlement agreement

At Askews, we have considerable experience advising upon settlement agreements.

These are extremely important documents because once signed, you will usually sign away any rights to make a claim against an employer and you should ensure you are fully advised in this regard. They are often poorly drafted and require amendment.

If you are offered a settlement agreement and after advice, decide to sign it, your employer will usually have agreed to pay a contribution towards your legal costs. The contribution may cover all of those costs. If we think it will not, we will tell you and, if you wish, we can ask your employer to consider paying the actual costs incurred.

You should never sign a settlement agreement just to get your costs paid by your employer. We will advise you if we think signing a settlement is not in your interest. You can then make an informed decision.
