If you have been injured because of a criminal assault, you may be able to pursue a claim for compensation.

At Askews, our personal injury solicitors have extensive experience dealing with criminal injury assault claims.

Criminal assaults can include sexual assaults, unprovoked attacks and violent muggings. If you have suffered as a result of a criminal assault there are generally two ways to claim compensation:

Criminal Injuries Compensation Authorities (CICA)

CICA is a government organisation that can pay compensation to people who have been physically or mentally injured because they were the victim of a violent crime in the England, Scotland and Wales, and sometimes whilst abroad.

The scheme allows financial compensation to be made:

  • Physical injuries
  • Disabling mental injuries
  • Sexual or physical abuse
  • The death of a close relative
  • Paying for someone’s funeral
  • Loss of earnings and expenses

Your application for compensation must be lodged within two years of your assault and you should have reported the criminal assault to the police and fully co-operated with them.

At Askews we can help guide you through the CICA process, of if this is not the appropriate route, legally support you in looking for alternative courses of action.
